RHINOPLASTY

TREATMENT

RHINOPLASTY

The nose is the most central facial feature, and one that other people can be drawn to when communicating. The appearance of the nose does not always take on the form that one prefers, whether it’s due to genetics or from damage to the structure caused by an accident or injury. Concerns such as: bump on the nose (dorsal hump), crooked nose, hooked nose, a wide bridge or a less defined tip can often impact the affected person’s confidence and self-esteem, seeking a ‘nose job’ to help balance the features and improve their overall look.

Surgical rhinoplasty addresses the bone, cartilage or skin (or a combination of all 3) in order to alter the size and shape of the nose. The approach your surgeon takes will depend on your individual concerns and which method will produce the desired results. The internal structure of the nose is accessed through an incision made at the base, between the nostrils. Adjustments can then be made to the bone and / or cartilage, whether it is to be added to (using cartilage from other areas of the body), or removed.

Our treatments for the face and eyes are carried out under general anaesthetic. Here at REAL we use total intravenous anaesthesia as it has greater potential benefits compared to other forms of anaesthesia. Intravenous anaesthesia is more rapid in onset, and elimination which allows for speedier recovery. Further benefits include: increased haemodynamic stability (stabilised blood flow), decreased risk of organ toxicity, decrease in surgical haemostasis (bleeding), reduced risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting, and improved, more predictable recovery.

QUESTIONS OFTEN ASKED ABOUT RHINOPLASTY

  • Does rhinoplasty produce permanent results?

Surgical rhinoplasty (also known as a ‘nose job’) alters the anatomical structure of the nose, and therefore offers a permanent solution to improving the appearance of the nose.

  • What are the side effects of this procedure?

Rhinoplasty can be an invasive procedure that causes a degree of sensitivity, tenderness, swelling and bruising as the nose heals. It may take around 6 weeks before the final outcome becomes visible and a series of follow-up appointments will closely monitor your recovery.
