Weak Chin

Condition

Weak Chin

A “weak” chin is a term that describes a small or undefined chin or jaw. Usually, a “weak” chin  is defined by its proportions in comparison to the trajectory of the nose and lips. When the chin is noticeably shorter, this could be considered ‘weak’.

Weak Chin in more detail

Facial asymmetry can also cause a weak chin to appear, especially when the upper lip is larger and protrudes more. This tends to reduce contour clarity from the chin to the neck. A chin that is weak can also be due to genetics, birth defects or trauma or injury to the jawbone area.

Those with a “weak” chin are more likely to notice that they have problems with speech and eating, and may also experience low self-esteem, especially in male patients, where a prominent chin or jawline may be considered an attractive quality.
