Acne

Acne is a common skin condition that can affect people of all ages. Commonly driven by hormonal changes, acne is often assumed to be a condition notably apparent in teenage skin.

However, just as commonly acne can be present in women, particularly around the time of menstruation, or in men, often reported to be present on the face, back and neck.

Acne in more detail

If you are someone who suffers outbreaks of acne, there are measures that you can take to help keep the skin clean and exfoliated to aid in reducing the appearance of acne, and lessening the likelihood of future scarring. Acne will often present as pimples, spots, white heads or pustules that can be raised, red and angry in appearance.

It is very tempting to touch and pick the area of concern to reduce the appearance of ‘heads’, although it is important to know that when the spot shows a head (either white, yellow or green tinged) then this is a sign that infection may be present. In this instance, it is best not to touch the affected area. By touching the area you may distribute infection to healthy areas of skin, and thus exacerbate the issue as debris and bacteria can become trapped under the nails and is easily spread.
