Acne scars are the markings or textural changes to the skin following an outbreak of acne.
Acne scars may present in a number of different ways including; red marks, patches of discolouration, pock marks or in severe cases, the skin may take on a ‘rolling texture’. The latter can be particularly difficult to conceal.
Acne Scars in more detail
Acne scars form due to the breakdown of the skin’s surface when a spot or pimple breaks open and causes extensive damage. Picking or squeezing a pimple can contribute to further scarring as it aggravates the area and can cause unintentional permanent damage to the delicate structure of the skin.
There are a number of factors that may increase the likelihood of acne scarring including; hormonal changes, impaired healing, picking or aggravating the spot, historic acne, puberty.
We have a selection of treatment options appropriate for acne scarring, such as; chemical peels, microdermabrasion, micro-needling and advanced skincare. Whilst acne scarring is treatable in most cases, it is unlikely to fully correct itself without intervention.
